Brisbane Lions Indigenous Players 2023

Brisbane Lions Sir Doug Nicholls Guernsey Unveiled

Premiership Players Design Cultural Masterpiece

Celebrating Cultural Diversity in the AFL

Former Brisbane Lions premiership players Des Headland and Ash McGrath have joined forces once again, this time to proudly design the Club's 2023 Sir Doug Nicholls Guernsey. The 2023 AFL Players Indigenous Map celebrates the cultural diversity across both the AFL and the Brisbane Lions. The guernsey's design, painted by Kevin Bynder, represents the stories of Headland and McGrath, two proud Aboriginal men who played a pivotal role in the Lions' premiership success.

The 2023 Indigenous Guernsey was photographed by proud Wakka Wakka and Gubbi Gubbi man Dan Fewquandie on Yuggera and Ugarapul land. The guernsey serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of the Brisbane Lions and the Indigenous players who have contributed to the club's success.

In addition to the guernsey unveiling, the Brisbane Lions also announced that Bre Koenen, the club's Premiership captain, two-time premiership player, 2023 Grand Final best on ground, and 2022 AFLW Players' Association MVP, has re-signed with the club for the 2024 season. Koenen's re-signing is a significant boost for the Lions, who are looking to build on their premiership success in 2024.
